Lab A Ryan

Overall I felt that lab A went pretty good. Of course there are many things that I need to work on, but I feel that this was a very good start for me. According to my peers and my TA I need to be more specific with my expectations for the students. I agree with this feedback because I was very broad in that aspect of lab A. According to chapter 4, the whistle should not be relied on in a small class. I agree with this, and I could have had a better signal for attention than my whistle. Chapter 4 also says that demonstrations should be accurate because students will try to reproduce the movement that they see in a demonstration. I feel that my demonstration of juggling portrayed the correct way to juggle, so the students would be able to reproduce the movement correctly after practice. Lab A was a great learning experience, and it was very good practice for lab B, and will come in handy as I prepare for lab B.

  1. Hi Ryan,
I rarely use a whistle during PE. However, I use it as an emergency signal outside at times or when playing basketball of other sports where students can't hear or see me easily. My favorite one is putting my hand up and counting down from 5 to 0. I liked how you juggled for your hook.

  2. Ryan, I thought your idea to juggle was great. It was something different from everyone elses topics. Overall I think you did a good job! The only thing I would suggest is getting the students more involved. Ask us more questions about juggling or have a student try it out. The demo of juggling was fun to watch too!

  3. Ryan, I thought your hook was great! The only thing I could say is that when you do your expectations that they aren't as broad like you said. Another great thing is that you seemed comfortable standing up there!!!

  4. Hi Ryan, in my opinion I thought your idea to juggle was awesome! Your hook was great; once you started juggling it drew me right in I wish I could juggle! The only thing I could say about your presentation was to be a little louder and to make your expectations clearer. Other then that great lab you seem like you really have the hang of juggling!!

  5. Hey Ryan-

I think your Lab A presentation was well done. It was well executed but could have used a few tweaks to be as effective as possible. Your hook was great. I thought it was funny you took out a tennis ball and the students immediately assumed you were doing tennis. Once you switched to juggling, you caught everyone's attention. Your voice could have been a little louder and a little slower, which will come in time. Your expectations should also be a little more specific. Other than that, you nailed it!

  6. Ryan-

You were very successful with your hook by displaying your juggling skills for the class. This was very effective because as you went on to talk about how we will be working on juggling it made me interested in learning how to juggle like that! You did an excellent job of explaining your expectations and covering your safety. However the only thing that you could have worked on is the volume of your voice and to project yourself in a more confident manner. Overall it was very interesting and I will be looking forward to more of your lab presentations!
